MAIDENS CALM

“Maiden’s Calm” is a meditative composition rooted in the landscapes of Victoria’s High Country. Long hikes through this region revealed a tranquil interplay of dense native forests, exposed earthy expanses, and the winding waterways that connect them. These experiences inspired the artwork’s vertical ribbons, which flow gently downward to represent distinct landscape typologies: verdant greens for native eucalypt forests, rich browns for open, barren terrain, and soft whites for the watercourses threading between them. The non-touching lines within each ribbon reflect natural separations in the land’s strata, with deeper saturation along the outer edges and lighter tones within, evoking a sense of movement, depth, and transition. “Maiden’s Calm” invites the viewer into a quiet, immersive journey—mirroring the contemplative rhythm of walking through the High Country—and offering a visual homage to its layered, evolving beauty.
